  EMG Training Lab -Soils, Fertilizer and Nutrient Management, Saturday, August 8, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. approximately

Learn how to take a soil sample, use an at-home soil test kit, compare home kit with Virginia Tech's soils analysis, how to interpret results. Learn how to evaluate soil texture and color. Also look at soil arthropods and review ways of keeping soil healthy. 

Instructor - Elizabeth Tomlin, EMG, DMGA - degrees in entomology and forestry with an emphasis on integrated pest management and chemical ecology. Biology professor at UNC Greensboro for over 20 years, gardening her whole life. High interest in permaculture and sustainable gardening. 

Location: Home of Elizabeth Tomlin - 597 Wilderness Trail, Pelham, NC  27311 - drive to the very end of Wilderness Trail, red barn on the right and white house on the left + gardens, chickens and guineas (drive slowly and they will move:) Map will be sent by text or email, if you need a ride let Bonnie know.

Preparation: Complete Soils, Nutrient Management and Fertilizers  module and quiz. Dress appropriately for hands-on work in the garden and sun protection, closed-toe shoes. If you wish to test a sample from your own garden, bring about a cup of your soil. 

Waters provided, restroom available, can bring your own snacks.The majority of this lab will be indoors.
